Tour of Cheshire Preview

The HRCR MotorSport News Historic Road Rally Championship starts this weekend with the Tour of Cheshire. The Knutsford + District MC event starts at the Bickerton Poachers, Malpas with a full entry of 85 cars, the first car away is at 08.15 on Saturday

Its 32 years since the last Motoring News Rally the JJ Brown in 1987 and the current historic Championship enables cars from that era to continue in our sport

The top entries include 2018 Champions Ian Crammond/Matthew Vokes Mercedes 280SL, 2017 Champions Matt Warren/Ryan Pickering Escort RS and a plethora of the country’s top crews including Crosby/Frost Porsche 911, the Staniforth’s Cooper S and Warren/Tullie Porsche 911

The Expert battle is likely to be fought between Barker/Killeen Porsche 924, Goodwin/Davies Dolomite Sprint, Jones/Hughes MGB, Owens/Mitchell Porsche 356, Lambley/Hancox MG Magnette and the Martin’s Escort 1600 Sport

While novice front runners include the Vokes’s Ginetta G15, the Binstaed’s MGB, Williams/Darlington VW Golf, Smith/Lester BMW 2002 and Harrison/Smith Triumph 2000

The Rally visits Oulton Park more than once during the day where spectators are welcome, amongst the cars to look out for are:- the pre-war Bentley Derby’s, the ’66 Alpine Renault, the Hartwell Avenger, the Toyota Celica 2000GT
