Wyedean Rally preview 2023
As we close out the Challenge out for this year there is still the matter of the Gravel Cup to be resolved on this years Wyedean Rally which starts from Coleford on Saturday 18th November. With the overall Challenge already decided in favour of Baz Wheeler and John Pickavance, a number of permutations come into play to decide the winner of the aforementioned Gravel Cup. It is currently led by Andy Stokes and Jonny ‘Tad’ Evans but they are not present on the Wyedean as they prepare, along with a lot of other crews, for the challenge of the RAC Rally. This means that Hywel Davies could also win but he is not currently entered. The third dimension is the strong crew of Jonathan Brace and Paul Spooner in the Brace’s Bread Ford Escort RS1600 who are entered and merely need to finish to claim the prize. So, watch this space and see if there is a late entry from Davies to put the cat amongst the pigeons!
Two other crews are out, Bob Gibbons and Jon Harris think that the issues they have experienced this year with ignition problems are solved and the lovely Blue Sky Engineering powered Escort RS1600 will be a pleasure to see out on the forest tracks. Dean stalwart Eric Davies is out too in his Mini Clubman but has Ryan Taylor sat with him as Russell Joseph is otherwise engaged. With a relatively small field the tracks should hold up quite well but will no doubt be as slippery as ever with the thick layers of autumn leaves that have fallen recently. We wish everyone the best of luck and will then start looking forward to the 2024 season.
