The St. Wilfrids Classic Rally organised by the Ripon Motor Sport Club was the sixth round of the 2018 HRCR Hagerty Insurance Clubmans Road Rally Championship.
Darell and Nicky Staniforth kept it all together to take their second win of the championship while a number of the top seeds made uncharacteristic mistakes on the very slippery tests. Best performance on the Tests went to Darell and Nicky with 5th on the Regularities.
Excellent performances by Gavin and Carrie Rogers, Reliant Scimitar, 4th and David Ruddock and Nick Cooper, Vauxhall Viva/Magnum, 5th made some of the regular championship contenders’ work hard for their points!
Clive and Anji Martin took an excellent third on the Tests beating John Ruddock and Les McGuffog by a just couple of seconds; both crews in mk1 Escorts.
Harvey Steele and Martin Pitt were top Experts with a fine 11th overall tying on penalties with Ross Traders winners, Ian Crammond and Matthew Vokes; Ian and Matthew having the minimum Regularity penalties, but their car sounded particularly poorly at the finish with a top end rattle.
Once again Ken and Sarah Binstead, MGB took Novice honours being 23rd overall.
Simon Mellings was the winner of the HRCR Amazon Cars Challenge Cup.
The competitors were very complimentary about the rally and the organising team of the Ripon Motor Sports Club headed up by Clerk of the Course, Sam Wainwright, and look forward to next year.
