Team Green Flanks New Man Phil Mould at Three Sisters

The new look Moran Motorhomes Speed Series got under way on Sunday 31st at the newly resurrected Three Sisters Circuit at Wigan and those that made the journey were impressed with the venue and organisers BARC  – Midlands efforts.

Some took the opportunity to avail themselves of the Saturday run to get in some race time in readiness for Sunday which certainly helped series regular Paul Boscott in his Lotus Elan recording a best time of 91.18 over the two lap course. No “engine out” drama’s after this one, Paul!

However this still wasn’t enough to stave off the efforts of Pete Barlow in the Mini who, swapping times all day recorded a best time of 88.54. After last years’ frustrations it was good to see Pete finally getting the Mini to perform. He was rewarded with a class win on the day so worth the long hours in the garage over the winter!

Another who struggled last season with mechanical/fuel Gremlins was Peter Houghton in his standard mini but that was all in the past as the new venue proved to be just the job as he recorded a clean sweep although not quite breaking the 100 second marker at 109.65  but picking up third in his class. Well done Peter.

Father & son team of Tony & Damon Green, who also missed out on several rounds last year had a very busy winter as the pair of immaculately turned out Amazons returned trouble free runs. Youth (relatively speaking!!) paying off with Damon taking the family honours by shaving a whole 10 seconds off father Tony’s time with a 94.44 for the 1609m course. Damon collecting second in class along the way.

New championship runner, Phil Mould took full advantage of the organisers efforts and recorded times in both practice runs and all six timed runs in his MGB GT by bettering his initial run of 100.11 down to 98.95 by the end of the day. Nice to have a “B”  in the running, Phil.

A great start to the season and three full weeks to fettle and spanner check the cars and rest the drivers in readiness for Liverpool Motor Clubs Aintree Sprint at the end of the month.
