North Yorks Classic Preview

The North Yorkshire Classic preview
We’ve had some busy weeks in the world of Historic rallying with an event every weekend for the last 3 weeks, sadly this has impacted on the entry for the North Yorks.
However I reckon the 48 crews entered are in for a treat, with Roger Burkill and his Team ringing the changes. This year the rally again based at Hawkhills, nr Easingwold will start at 15.01 Saturday afternoon with the 1st car expected back just before 20.00. After the overnight halt, the 1st car away on Sunday morning will be at 8.31 returning to the finish at 13.00ish.

The changes don’t stop there, we’ve got reverse seeding! Why I hear some of you ask….well the organisers felt that it would be unfair to run the less experienced crews for the longest time in the dark – let those with more experience face that ordeal, all seems fair to me. However, crews must remember to look for their start time on Sunday morning as we’ll be re-seeded on classification at that point.

So it falls to 3 non Championship crews to lead us away with Doug Carmichael/John Gearing (MGB) followed by the magnificent 4.7ltr Mustang of Roy Stephenson/Paul Turner ahead of Robert Pigg/Phillip Dean (1293S).

At the sharp end the Staniforth’s, the Bricknell’s and Howard Warren/Iain Tullie fresh from their 3 Legs of Man win will be hard to beat but don’t discount Mark Turner on only his 2nd regularity rally as he’s managed to persuade Matt Vokes to ride shotgun.

And finally, please assist the old guy navigating in the MotorSport News guest car as he’s fed up of missing secret checks……our guest is Adam Morgan who is starting his 8th season in BTCC driving the Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes. Adam has just got back from winter testing in Spain where they have managed to further reduce weight in the car and he’s raring to start the new season at Brands on the 7th April.

Phil Wood who is seen below hustling the P1800 along on NYC 2018, will have Kelvin Phipps guiding him this time as regular navigator Iain Miller has broken his wrist, (Gardening!).
