Preview North Yorkshire Classic Rally 2020
As some of you know I love a Rally that goes into the night, though if my 3 blunders on Matlock Motor Clubs 12 car last night are anything to go by maybe I should eat more carrots! Enough said park the bad result and move onto the next …….(bad result I hear you quip).

Anyway I’m really looking forward to this event where the organisers are promising “a favour of the old Motoring News road rallies on Saturday evening” Don’t panic service barges with race tyres for the Cockayne Loop are not expected!
It’s always difficult to pick out names to watch out for but Championship leaders Howard Warren/Iain Tullie and Paul Crosby/Ali Procter will have to look out for the usuals Isherwood/Canavan, Mellings/Carr as well as season starters Haygarth/Hargreaves, Leadbetter/Woodham and the Staniforths.
Don’t forget to look out for the ever sideways Andy Beaumont with night mapman Sam Spencer, Colin Martin with Mum Anji who really impressed on the ToC tests and whilst not in the Historics it’ll be fun to watch out for Niall and Amy in their T class Peugeot 106.
Of the experts Powley/Goff (they’ll be reminiscing old MN days), Turner/Heriot and Garnish/Bell are top of the points currently ….but my money might go on the Humphrey’s 1293 S (there’s a kiss of death Peter – sorry) And the Novices well – Suzanne and Tyler Barker should win but for me Tom Robinson and Lynsley Procter must do well – his music lit up the ‘70’s (sadly I fear it’s not the right Tom).
Finally who have we got in the Mr Tyre Motorsport car …Andy “Ace” Harrison best known for his historic racing in Minis and F. Junior – here racing at Goodwood.
But for me he’s also the proud owner of UDM 999G which Berwyn Williams, Martin Thomas and Barry Hughes ran on the 1968 London – Sydney Marathon, the Rhyl + District crew sadly retired at Kabul.
Rhyl was my first Motor Club back in ’66 and I was lucky enough to service crew for Berwyn on the ’66 RAC where he and John Twigdon came 21st overall, 3rd in Class and won the Club team award for Rhyl + District so whilst in full nostalgia mode here we are servicing in true Mini style.
