Round 7 of the 2017 HRCR Hagerty Insurance Clubmans Road Rally Championship gets underway this weekend in Malton, North Yorkshire, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Henry Carr, who tells me it’s” always sunny in Yorkshire”, can work a miracle once again. Howard Warren has teamed up with Andy Pullan for this event, so they should be the favorites for the win, although I’m sure there are plenty in the rest of the entry who will be making it as difficult as possible for them.
Dave Leadbetter and Cath Woodman will be hot on their heels following there very popular win on the East Anglian Classic a couple of weeks ago, while Paul Crosby with Ryan Pickering and John Abel with Martyn Taylor will all be giving them a run for their money. Let’s hope John and Martyn have banished the trip gremlins that plagued them in East Anglia.
Seeded at 14 are Paul Bloxidge and John Youd who were leading the EAC until the last Regularity when John managed to trip himself up by penciling over a spot height, they will be hoping for a clear run this weekend so John can put his spot height demons to bed.
Other folks to look out for include Simon Frost in his newly rebuilt Clan Crusader with Sam Spencer and Richard Isherwood with Ian Canavan who are also very capable of a top ten finish.
There are a few new pairings further down the field. Paul Davis has Martin Phaff in the left hand seat and I know Martin, in particular is looking for a top five finish, while Phil Cheek has Anji Martin on the clocks and maps keeping her hand in while Clive gets their Escort rebuilt.
In the novice class Andy and Ros Simpson are only 13 points behind current class leaders Les Andrew and Nick Middleton so it’s very close, while Peter Williams and Andy Darlington have returned to add to the mix.
As always it’s certainly going to be a very competitive day at all levels, so let’s see how it develops.
