After an interminable delay by the MSA clarifying the situation with respect to the results for the St Wilfrids Rally in August I can now confirm the HRCR Hagerty Insurance Clubmans Road Rally Championship and Amazon Cars Challenge Cup Points. The full detail may be found in the Clubmans section on this website.
After many years of trying Ian Crammond and his trusty Mercedes Benz 280SL finally clinched the championship with Matthew Vokes, one of the current top class navigators, after a year filled with ups and downs. I’ll not write much more as Ian has written a full review of the year for the next edition of Old Stager.
The best Expert driver is Les Andrew in his MBGGT while the best expert navigator is Martin Phaff who navigated a number of different drivers during the year and has now taken on the mantle of HRCR Clubmans Road Rally Championship Secretary. The Novice Class was closely fought eventually being taken by Clive and Anji Martin in their Mk1 Escort after a year-long battle with Ken and Sarah Binstead, MGB; the winning margin being just two points. Well done to all the competitors.
The Amazon Cars Challenge Cup for competitotrs who drive their cars to and from the event went to Ian Crammond while the Don Barrow Trophy for the highest Category 1 car and crew also went to Ian Crammond and Matthew Vokes.
The Best All Rounder is Clare Grove for driving and navigating during the year.
The new Gibson-Purdy Trophy for the crew or individual using either a mechanical trip-meter or mechanical calculator, like the Kurta, was won by Cath Woodman.
See you at the HRCR Open Day on 12th January 2019 at Gaydon.
Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
