The Historic Rally Car Register Scenic Tour Calendar for 2016 sponsored for the second year by Classics by JSWL.

The HRCR Calendar gets off to a flying start at the end of March with a total of 17 one day events to enjoy throughout the year with a final 18th one being a weekend tour in Wales organised by the Club’s Chairman, after the success of this extended tour in 2014 to celebrate the club’s 30th Anniversary.

The touring scene continues to thrive with a selection of tours located around England and Wales either organised by HRCR Regional Centres or well established MSA Motor Clubs.

The idea of the tours is very simple, bring your classic car out for the day with family or friends and enjoy the company of like minded individuals whilst visiting some very interesting locations and travelling the quiet rural lanes. Most start with a breakfast buttie while the documentation is dealt with. There is normally a lunch stop either with a picnic or opportunity to purchase some sustenance, often a tea halt and maybe even supper included, some with entertainment at the finish.

Entries range from 40 – 80 cars and the entry criteria is also flexible depending on the organising team with cut off dates varying, some events allow “Modern Classics” too.

Often the tours are raising money for good local causes and there may be a raffle at the finish.

You don’t need to be a member of any club to enter and there is no competition so nothing other than a valid driving licence, you shouldn’t need special insurance but it is wise to check with your insurer just to be on the safe side.

Navigation on the whole uses a tulip roadbook but some organisers may use a marked map or other simple diagrams to help you along the way to the suggested rest halts.

If you are planning to enter any specific tour it is wise to get your entry in early as the events tend to be very well supported and are often fully reserved months in advance.

So if you have a classic car that you don’t want to rally but you want an excuse to use it, you now have a very valid reason. You will probably make some smashing new friends along the way and visit places you never knew existed, even on tours quite near your home.
