The 7th Regis TAP – Classic Car Tour and Picnic – Sunday 3rd September 2017

Bognor Regis Motor Club Ltd ran their 7th annual fundraising classic car tour and picnic in aid of Sussex Air Ambulance recently.  This very popular tour has again found some new and interesting places to visit and was included in the Historic Rally Car Register’s prestigious Scenic Tour Calendar, this features some of the best one day club tours run in the UK.  These tours are totally non-competitive and entrants do not need to be members of any motor club or hold a competition licence to take part. BRMC are very grateful to Kevin Law at Orchard Restorations of Heathfield for his continued generous sponsorship of this tour.

The tour visited some of the beautiful parts of West Sussex & Hampshire.

The club were delighted to be return to Great Ballard School at Eartham between Chichester & Arundel as their fabulous and exclusive start venue. Coffee or tea plus a breakfast roll was served whilst documentation took place.  The first car left the start at 10.01 followed by the other 81 cars at one minute intervals.  It was a damp start but the rain stayed away until every car had left the start but the dry weather didn’t last.

This year’s lovely picnic lunch venue was a private visit to Rookesbury Park near Wickham, Hampshire. Luckily their Orangery was available so participants could eat their picnics in the dry.  The variety of cars looked amazing  parked outside this fabulous Palladian Grade II listed mansion, however by this time the rain was heavy and persistent!

This didn’t dampen spirits and a Cream tea and afternoon visit followed at Bursledon Brickworks, this heritage museum is very interesting and charts the history of brick making in the local area.

The volunteers made us most welcome and other visitors to the museum enjoyed seeing the array of classic cars from 1925 until the present day.

We were very privileged to have been given permission for a private visit to William Medcalf Vintage Bentley Workshops at Hill Brow, Liss. There was an amazing selection of this fantastic marque being prepared for various local and international events with some of their very knowledgeable staff on hand to explain the technical details. Thanks also to White Rose Automotive at Liss for allowing us to park on their forecourt.

We were delighted to return to our original private finish venue this year at The Tithe Barn, Old Ditcham Park Farm near Petersfield courtesy of Jeremy and Margaret Oates. As usual Matt’s Hog Roast provided a delicious hog and cash bar while the BRMC marshals sold raffle tickets in aid of Sussex Air Ambulance. The Renegade Dogs, a local folk trio, provided musical entertainment during the evening.

There were some fabulous raffle prizes from Autosports-Gallery, Frame Base at Barnham, Classic & Sportscar, Sussex Life Magazine, Andrew McDowall, Temple Spa, Castle Combe Motor Circuit plus chocolates and spirits donated by participants and supporters.

£4,165.00 has been raised for Sussex Air Ambulance so far this year and the overall figure for seven years stands at £26, 919.64.

Thanks to our lovely sponsors:  Orchard Restorations of Heathfield, James Campbell who printed all the roadbooks, our advertisers: Hardy Engineering, K & N Classics, Sherrard Resourcing & Sidlesham Garage.  Thaks also to our wonderful host venue providers and the fabulous team of marshals who smiled all day despite the miserable weather.
