Penrite Oil Winners Announced
Shane Gamble and Steve Powell were the first Historic Rally Car Register winners of 5-litres of Penrite Oil thanks to Classic Oils based at Bicester Heritage Centre.
They were delighted with their prizes after a dozen registered crews, taking part in the Jasper Bakeries AGBO Stages at Weston Park near Telford, went into the draw.
Classic Oils was established in 2002 and now offers a complete range of lubricants, coolants, fuel treatments and other consumables for all classic, veteran and vintage vehicles, including motorcycles, steam vehicles and earlier diesel engines.
Based at the ex-RAF site which is now a centre of excellence for classic motoring and aviation. They launched their own label range with ‘Heritage 20w50’ to celebrate their presence at Bicester and were appointed Penrite’s Master Distributor for UK and Ireland in December 2016.
Managing Director Guy Lachlan said: “In February 2017, the business moved solely to Bicester Heritage allowing us to concentrate our stocks and expertise in a single location.
“We are delighted to be teaming up with the HRCR to promote Penrite’s range of oils and greases to the classic and historic motorsport world.
“Penrite manufactures a range of very high-quality blends at their Melbourne Australia facility, including some very broad-spectrum classic multigrades, and hign-zinc synthetics which are perfect for high performance classic car engines.”
Steve Powell has been competing for more than 10-years, navigated by Jamie Hawkins they never really got to grips with the slick asphalt made even slippier by the frequent snow showers that fell on regular occurrence throughout the day.
Steve admitted to a few minor offs and a couple of tricky moments that fully tested the brakes in the category 2 Hillman Avenger, after being around the mid thirties for most of the day he eventually went up the rankings to finish 25th overall and 3rd in class.
After a winter break Shane Gamble and Bob Ward were keen to start the first round of the year.
He was out of the blocks straight away stopping the clocks in and around the mid-teens on a regular basis. Shane was so consistent that by the lunch break he was knocking on the fringes of the top ten.
Unfortunately, the reverse stages in the afternoon saw Shane drop to 31st overall after drowning out in the infamous Weston Park ford that back in 1987 claimed the car of formula one racing driver Derek Bell.
Both have joined 9 round West Wales Rally Spares HRCR Stage Masters Challenge because of the deals available to competitors.
Steve Powell said: “We’d like to thank Penrite Oils for their generous donation.
“Being clubman, when looking at competing in 2018, we needed to think about a championship that was fun but also has some perks that we can hopefully take advantage of.”
The HRCR hope the deal with Classic Oils will be long term and will offer their 1,500 members and their classic and vintage engines increased protection levels, more consistent oil pressure and reduced sludge deposits.
