Three clubmen get free entry into a BHRC event

Simon Whitehead Simon Whitehead

Dunlop/WONAGO.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship

Press release: Thursday, 26 August 2010

The three winners of the Holton Homes Award have been announced for 2010, a new series of discretionary awards in the Dunlop/WONAGO.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

Simon Whitehead (Hillman Imp), Gary Orton (Ford Escort Mk1) and David Lloyd-Roberts (Ford Escort Mk2) have been awarded a free entry into either the Tour of Flanders or the Trackrod Historic Cup, the two concluding BHRC rounds of the season.

The three winners of the BHRC 'Spirit of Clubmen' awards were selected by an expert panel, which was looking for crews that typify the ethos of clubmen, competing in a self-prepared car and running on limited funds.

Supported by Holton Homes, the company of BHRC contender Peter Egerton, the BHRC 'Spirit of Clubmen' award has presented three fully paid entry fees; one to the category 1 cars, one to the category 2 cars and one to the category 3 cars. Each award is worth up to £500.

"We wanted to make a difference to crews running on limited finances," said Egerton. "I'm very pleased with the three crews that have been chosen by the judges and I look forward to seeing them competing in Belgium or Yorkshire."

"This is a great way to recognise and reward the efforts of the lower-budget clubmen competing in the BHRC," said series co-ordinator Simon Marks. "We are very grateful to Holton Homes for supporting the awards and we are pleased to have selected three very deserving recipients."

Mid Wales Stages moves to March for 2011

Dunlop/WONAGO.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship

Press release: Sunday, 20 June 2010

The Rally Marketing Mid Wales Stages will move earlier in the season for 2011 following news that the event organisers from Newtown and District Automobile Club will run the popular event on Sunday 6 March 2011.

The historic element of the rally will now form the opening round of the 2011 Dunlop/WONAGO.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

The Mid Wales Stages will retain a similar format for its new date, with scrutineering and documentation on Saturday 5 March followed by the rally on Sunday 6 March. Once again, the rally will be based at Theatr Hafren in Newtown and will take in classic stages of the Hafren and Myherin complexes.

"The current date for the rally in June comes at such a busy time for everyone, and this change moves us away from that crowded part of the calendar," said event clerk of the course Chris Tomley. "It is a better time of year for lots of people, including the marshals. It also gives us the opportunity to grow the modern entry. We will keep the event to a similar format, with a compact route and regular visits to the service area."

The organisers of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship are delighted with the date change. "We really do welcome this change," said championship co-ordinator Simon Marks. "This is just what our calendar needed. It takes the pressure out of the middle of the season and spreads the championship nicely over seven months."
