Flanders Entry Fee - Don't tell the Belgians!
I received the following in a recent e-mail from Marc Vandermoortele:
"During our lastest meeting with the organising comitee of the Tour of Flanders my collegues asked me not to publich the lower entry fee for the HRCR contenders to prevent that belgian competitors will be asking the same conditions. I can understand their inquiry and will ask you if it should be possible to publish the special entry fee on the HRCR website ?
For the HRCR contenders the organisers of the Historic Tour of Flanders are offering a special entry fee of 550 Euro instead of the 700 Euro for the competitors which are competing in the Belgian Historic Rally Championship (BHRC). To eliminate the bank transfer costs it is allowed for the HRCR contenders to pay cash at roadbook distribution. The organisers hope to meet all of you in Roeselare for a 2 days event (Friday and Saturday) with approx. 211 km stages (approx. 132 stage miles). The pricegiving is scheduled after the event at approx. 01:00 Sunday morning. After an after rally party and a nice sleep you can return home relaxed on Sunday.
Marc Vandemoortele
Deputy Clerk of the Course"
Just mention this e-mail when you send off your entries to the event.
I am aware that a better "deal" is being hawked round the internet for the modern rally. I queried this last year and was told that it was funded separately from the Historic budget. I will be mentioning this again when I am in Belgium. If anyone else wishes to lobby for an equivalent deal to be offered to the Historic crews, please do so and we'll see what can be worked out (probably for next year)
Obviously, it would make financial sense for HRCR members not registered for the Championship to do so in time for this round so that they can claim the saving on the entry fee!

The 2010 BHRC TV deal - notes for competitors
Dunlop/WONAGO.com MSA British Historic Rally ChampionshipAs you now know, all eight rounds of the Dunlop/Wonago.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship will be televised in 2010, with dedicated hour-long programmes on Motors TV following each round.
This has been made possible by the commitment of Acceleration Television and Video, the company headed by David Winstanley. The BHRC Championship Committee and the HRCR is providing additional support. There will be no media club to pay into, so it is an exceptionally good deal for the BHRC and its registered contenders.
However, we all need to help make this work for Acceleration so that the deal can be extended beyond 2010. There are several ways in which competitors can support this project:
1) Backing for the TV package is coming from 'My Life Story', a new business venture from Acceleration Television offering any individual the chance to have a DVD made of their life story, with prices starting from around £800. Please support this if possible and make other people aware of the service. More details are available at: www.mylifestorydvd.co.uk
2) DVDs of previous event coverage will be available for sale at each event. Please support this as much as possible.
3) Acceleration can offer personalised DVDs and photobooks from either individual events or the whole season. Please contact David Winstanley direct about this. The website is www.acceleration.co.uk and the office number is 01678 530744
4) There is scope for mini-features within the programmes looking at companies with links to historic rallying. This may suit preparation companies, component suppliers and similar. Once again, please discuss this direct with David.

Fuel & On-Event Supplies
Proof reading a set of Championship Round Supplementary Regulations highlighted some information that I feel worthwhile to share with contenders in the Dunlop / WONAGO.com - MSA British Historic Rally Championship.
"Competitors using fuel other than pump fuel as defined in Nomenclature & Definitions (B) p.62 should note the requirements of J 5.13.1 - J 5.13.8. The organisers have applied to the MSA for specific permission for competitors in this event to use fuel complying with FIA Appendix J - Article 254 - Article 9 and such permission has been granted. Competitors are reminded that if they are entered in a Championship which has not applied to the MSA for such permission, use of this fuel will be a breach of those Championship Regulations".
The Dunlop / WONAGO.com - MSA British Historic Rally Championship has not applied to the MSA to use fuels that are other than pump fuels. Competitors should be aware of this and need to take care, particularly on rounds where fuel can be purchased from specialist suppliers on the events, that they purchase pump grade fuel only, and not the FIA fuels that may also be available. With our not having applied for, or covered the uses of alternative fuels in our Championship Regulations, their use is outside the MSA and Championship Regulations whilst competing on rounds of the Championship.
Relevant MSA Competitor and Officials' Yearbook Clauses include:
J 5.13.4. Use Pump Fuel (see definition Nomenclature and Definitions) except, subject to prior written authority having been given by the MSA, where permitted otherwise under event SRs, and Championship Regulations.
Section (B) - Nomenclatures and Definitions -
Pump Fuel
(a) Petrol: Motor Gasoline of the type on sale to the general public from UK roadside filling stations (see Appendix 1): BS4040 (leaded) subject to possession of a valid permit for use, LRG (unleaded) in lieu of a BS or EN standard (TBA), BS EN 228 (unleaded) and BS7800 (super unleaded).
Petrol is a product refined from crude oil that contains a large number of identifiable compounds that can typically be 250 in number. These compounds can be identified and compared to the available petrol from major oil companies and suppliers.
Unless otherwise stated or the distinction is made between leaded and unleaded petrol, the motor gasoline fuel shall meet the following: Acceptance levels for Octane Numbers will be accepted or neglected according to the Standard ASTM D. 3244. Only additives to this Motor Gasoline Fuel solely for the purpose of lead replacement are allowed. Lead Replacement Gasoline (LRG, also known as LRP): Only additives from Sodium, Phosphorous, Potassium or Manganese according to manufacturers' recommendations are allowed. Note manganese can enhance octane values in any petrol. Under no circumstances will values in excess of 0.005 gms/litre be permitted. Lead in excess of EU Directive 98/70 EC requirements is illegal. This also applies to ‘Free Fuel'.
