Rally Show Run
John Hunt and his team from the North West staged a new Scenic Tour on Saturday 6th of June, which incorporated a visit to the Chatsworth Rally Show.
A full entry of 40 cars assembled in Alsager for a slap-up breakfast synonymous with events run by our North West Area. Tony and Iris Barron however could only imagine what was on offer, as they arrived too late, having been involved in the Chatsworth set up. However their first run this year in the Sunbeam Tiger was well above expectations and as the delights of the western side of the Staffordshire and Derbyshire Peak District unfolded, pangs of hunger were soon forgotten. The wet weather even had its own bonus as all the roads were virtually devoid of traffic. The Barron's starvation stint ended with delicious egg and bacon cobs obtained at the coffee halt following a delightful run up to the exposed Cat and Fiddle via the Goyt Valley.
The first half of the day used an impeccable tulip road book, impeccable that is after the Tiger crew realised their Halda was set on kilometres in readiness for the Marathon later this month.
The second section which went from the Cat and Fiddle to Mosey Low used a marked map to define the route, which took in many of the minor roads to the north of the Staffordshire/Derbyshire Dales and Mosey How to Chatsworth, described via mileage and road junction instructions transversed across Derbyshire to arrive at Chatsworth via the main entrance.
Participants were greeted by a suitably clad John Hunt and were directed to the Rally Run reserve parking lot via Elaine Hunt. Entry for the run included two tickets for the Rally Show where entrants could spend the rest of the day being entertained by what was on offer, including the rain.
This event was organised by the HRCR North West Area supported by Rallychat.co.uk and it also raised money for Save the Children

New 100 Series Rally with a Twist
Richard Egger, in conjunction with Loughborough Car Club and the HRCR, is looking at the viability of running a 100 Series Rally with a twist.
Billed as a daylight rally for novices and nice cars, the event will be based around the network of lanes between Loughborough and Melton Mowbray during September.
The intention is for competitors to assemble during mid Sunday morning for bacon cobs, documentation, scrutineering and three tests.
Then they will tackle three road loops each 30 miles long and return to the start venue after each one to tackle three tests before the next loop to finish with supper in a local friendly hostelry. Start around 10am to be in the pub by 8pm
There will be 2 levels of handout. A beginners set which is described as "simplistic in the extreme" and an experts set which will sort out the "experts".
The entry will be around the £25 mark with £15 for insurance and to include breakfast. Competitors will pay for their own supper.
Plans are at the point where we need to assess the level of interest, so if this takes your fancy, email Richard Egger at richard@rpegger.co.uk

NEWS Run a success
The first HRCR NEWS Run took place on Monday 5th of May. This new concept for HRCR was the brainchild of Jonothan Bowles of Continental Car Tours who is firm in his belief that Classic Car useage should first and foremost be enjoyed by those who take part.
This Scenic Tour had 4 starting points with the different routes all converging on the BMHC at Gaydon. The event attracted over 100 entries with 60 of these being new HRCR members.
Pictures from the HRCR NEWS Run can be viewed on this link (thanks to Robert Grounds).

HRCR Open Day fends off the recession
Historic rallying defied the current economic gloom when hundreds of historic rally competitors attended the Historic Rally Car Register's fifth Open Day at the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon on Saturday (10 January 2009).
With an air of optimism pervading the event, many existing and new competitors used the event as an opportunity to start planning their season, with stands from the range of HRCR championships, event organisers and trade exhibitors from across the spectrum of historic rallying.
Interest in the Dunlop/Gambia MSA British Historic Rally Championship ran at very encouraging levels, with a number of new competitors joining many of the established crews signing up for the season.
Also doing a brisk trade in enquiries was the new Mini 50 Cup, the HRCR stage rally series for all Minis up to 1981 that has been created to celebrate 50 years of the Mini.
Continuing the Mini theme was star guest Paddy Hopkirk, while two of the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally Mini Coopers were star exhibits along with the Liege-Rome-Liege Austin Healey of Pat Moss.
"It's been a very successful day," reported Tony Barron of the HRCR. "We've taken a record number of new memberships, which is highly encouraging in the current economic climate."
